Legion baseball roundup: Tri-Town edges Prinsburg 15-14

ATWATER -- A sacrifice fly from Lucas Damm drove in Brett Busskohl in the eighth inning to lift Tri-Town past Prinsburg 15-14 Tuesday to cap a wild District 7, Division II Region 3 playoff game that took two days to complete.

The game at Kingery Field started on Monday, but it was suspended due to darkness. Right before the game was called James Nelson singled in Brody Larson with two outs in the bottom half of the seventh to cap a five-run frame for the Black Sox.

The Black Sox (3-8) play at Bird Island on Thursday evening against BOLD; the tournament is now double-elimination. Prinsburg was eliminated and ended up 3-8.

Tri-Town started Monday scoring four runs in the first and two more in the second to take a quick 6-0 lead off Prinsburg starter Tyler Daugherty. But the visitors from the south erupted for eight runs in the third to seize control.

Prinsburg then scored three runs in the fourth and fifth to extend its lead to 11-6. Both teams scored three runs through 6½ innings before Tri-Town ended the game outscoring Prinsburg 6-0.

David Kinzler, the third Tri-Town pitcher, picked up the win after holding Prinsburg to three hits and one run in 2.2 innings of work.

Tri-Town smashed out 15 hits and Prinsburg 12. James Nelson paced the Black Sox by going 4-for-5 to drive in four runs, while four players had two hits each for Prinsburg, including Zach Zwart who doubled and knocked in three runs.
