Prep Volleyball: Cardinals steady, still Storm in 3

SAUK RAPIDS -- The Willmar Cardinals avoided a third-game breakdown and sailed past Sauk Rapids 3-0 on Thursday in Central Lakes Conference volleyball.

Willmar (5-3, 5-5), ever steady this match, prevailed 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19. The Storm dropped to 2-7 CLC and 8-10 overall.

"We had good passing and when we have that our offense runs well," said Willmar head coach Traci Grussing.

After getting off to good starts versus other CLC foes, Willmar had nosedived in the third set and ended falling in five.

Willmar benefited from back row balance with five players having either 6 or 7 digs.

Emily Minnick with 16 kills and Dani Rosen with 8 led the front-row play.

Willmar hosts seven other schools -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Benson, Central Minnesota Christian, New London-Spicer, Renville County West, Annandale and Sauk Rapids -- on Saturday for a tournament that starts at 8 a.m. at the high school.
