Boys soccer: Cardinals blank Storm

SAUK RAPIDS -- Charlie Trochlil got the shutout and Junior Becerra scored the game's only goal as the Willmar Cardinals belted the Sauk Rapids Storm 1-0 in Central Lakes boys soccer on Tuesday.

The win avenged a 2-1 loss to the Storm on Sept. 6.

Trochlil turned away 11 shots on net. Beccera's goal came on an assist from David Dominquez at 21:59 of the first period.

The Storm (2-4-3) and Willmar (3-7-0) are tied with four points each in sixth place in the CLC.

Joe Leuze defended the Storms' top offensive threat, Niman Hassan. Dominquez alternated between defensive midfielder and stopper at the top of the defense.

With a one-goal lead, coach Jeff Winter instructed the offense to stay on the attack. Sauk tried to boot the ball over the defense but Willmar covered.

Willmar will host Class A No. 1-ranked St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday on Parents Night.

Seeding is that evening based on QRF ranking. It appears, Willmar has a shot at a home game in Section 2A.
