Girls tennis roundup: Litchfield wins in 5A opener

LITCHFIELD -- Litchfield won its opening match in the Section 5A playoffs on Wednesday.

Laura Knisley, Krista Miller and Ali McGraw won singles matches for the Dragons while the doubles teams of Emily Smith and Kennedy Sommerfeld, April Anderson and Alexa Dessens and Grace Spanos/Kate Schumann all picked up victories.

The Dragons' playoff run continues on the road against top-seed Annandale at 3 p.m. today.

St. Cloud Cathedral's 1-doubles team of Greta Egerman and Sarah Schmitz beat Kristen Lewis and Wally Gustafson for the deciding point as the Crusaders beat New London-Spicer 4-3 and eliminate the Wildcats from the Section 5A tournament on Wednesday.

MacKenzie Loftness won in 3-singles and Megan Holme in 4-singles both won for the Wildcats, as well as the 3-doubles team of Kendra Gronseth and Kylie Soine.
