Prep wrestling: Willmar loses on road on another tiebreaker; ACGC, KMS, NLS victorious

SARTELL — Willmar saw a 25-7 lead after eight weights disappear quickly as Sartell five of the final six matches to win on the fifth tiebreaker after the teams both finished with 31 points Thursday in a Central Lakes Conference dual.

Sartell’s three pins to Willmar’s two was the difference. Willmar also lost on a tiebreaker to Alexandria on Jan. 3 in Willmar.

Sartell owned a 7-0 lead after 12 minutes of action before Willmar stormed back to win the next six matches.

Zach Lueders started the run with a 10-2 major at 120 and Nate Mittag followed with a pin late in the first period at 126. Austin Miley’s 8-2 decision at 132 and back-to-back-to-back major decisions from Estevan Navarro at 138, Travis Deegan at 145 and Colten Carlson at 152 pushed Willmar’s lead to 25-7.

The Sabres then got two decisions at 160 and 170 before collecting three consecutive pins. Cass Herzog tied the dual at 31-31 for Willmar with a pin 56 seconds into the heavyweight match.
