Girls hockey: Cardinals rough up St. Peter

WILLMAR — The Willmar Cardinals used a hat trick from Shelby Schneider to skate by St. Peter /LeSueur-Henderson/Tri-County United 7-2 at the Cardinal Arena on Tuesday.

The victory lifted Willmar to 5-1 against Section 2A opponents which keeps the Cardinals in line for a No. 2 seed behind Mound Westonka.

The first frame ended 1-1, Willmar exploded for 5 goals in the second: Miranda Roelofs, two by Schneider followed by Brooke Mayer and then Kierra Miller — her first varsity goal — with an assist going to Amelia Amon.

Samantha Block scored for Willmar in first, assisted by Annie Johnston.

Willmar outgunned the the 5-16 visitors  63 shots to 18.

Willmar plays the second game (about 7:30 p.m.) vs. Alexandria at Pack the Arena Night Thursday. Youth players get in free wearing team sweater.
