Local Roundup: Warriors sweep Northland

THIEF RIVER FALLS - The Ridgewater baseball team swept two games from Northland College on Friday in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled in Willmar but was moved to Thief River Falls because of the threat of rainy weather.

The Warriors' rode Miguel Cirino's strong pitching performance and Noah Harried's four runs batted in to win 12-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Noah Lantern and Colton Blain combined to allow four hits in a 3-1 win.

Joseann Rios doubled and drove in two runs, Kenneth Cruz was 2-for-3 and Winston Lane also drove in a run.

The Warriors are scheduled to play two game against Central Lakes beginning at 1 p.m. today at Swansson Orange in Willmar.

Browerville rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to down BBE on Thursday.

The Jaguars' Kaylee Torgerson had two hits and two runs batted in, and Kendra Schmitz and Kiara Quade both had two hits and drove in runs.

Oglesby earns All-America honors

Ridgewater basketball player Akeem Oglesby was named an NJCAA Division II second-team All-American.

Oglesby, a sophomore from Statesboro, Georgia, was also a second-team All-American in the 2015-16 season. This season, he averaged 19 points, four assists and four rebounds per game and shot 48 percent on 3-point shots. He also surpassed 1,000 career points.

Rockets to play in Town Ball Classic

The Raymond Rockets will play in the 2017 Town Ball Classic on June 24 at Target Field.

The Rockets, reigning Class C state champions, play at noon against the Sobieski Skis.

The Class B matchup features the Chaska Cubs and the Dundas Dukes at 2:30 p.m., and the Class A Minneapolis Cobras and Baseball 365 play at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the charity event are $10 and all players, team personnel, broadcasters and fans need a ticket for admission.

The tickets will soon be on sale at Twinsbaseball.com.

Card JV falls to Sartell

The Willmar junior varsity fell to Sartell 4-0 on Tuesday in Sartell.

Willmar's Caleb Owens was 2-for-3 with a double, and Andy Schultz was 1-for-3. Brady Bauman took the loss but allowed just one earned run and struck out five in four innings, and Jayden Dierenfeld struck out three and allowed two unearned runs in two innings. The Cardinals committed five errors.

Maras to play in Toronto tourney

Lauren Maras, 11, of Alexandria, is one of 100 youth hockey players from the U.S., Canada and Europe who will play in a round-robin tournament April 26-29 in Toronto.

Maras is one of five Minnesota players competing.

The players will attend a banquet at the Hockey Hall of Fame, during which they will be drafted onto team that will play a round-robin tournament, that concludes with championship and consolation championship games.

Players in the tournament also will be competing for spots on the World Select Team that will play in Europe in 2018.

Maras is the granddaughter of David and Anita Maras of Willmar and is the daughter of Laurie and Michael Maras, a 1989 Willmar graduate.
