Local Roundup: Warrior volleyball thumps Rochester

WILLMAR — The Ridgewater volleyball team prevailed over Rochester on Friday but the result was a bit of a shocker, especially to the Yellowjackets.

Ridgewater won in three sets, two decisively, 25-12, 28-26 and 25-10.

"We were the beneficiaries of uncharacteristic errors by Rochester," said Ridgewater head coach Joe Sussenguth. "I know they will play at a higher level when we see them at the end of October."

Ashley Froelich had 11 kills and no errors in 18 attempts for a Warriors attack that hit .314 (just 10 errors in 102 attacks). Cami Sletta had nine kills, Kiana Johnson had eight and Heidi Sellmann had six.

Jessica Lemke had 25 set assists and Sarah Sulflow had 12.

Ridgewater helped create many of Rochester's woes. The Warriors served well and their shot selection was putting the Yellowjackets on the defensive, Sussenguth said.

The Warriors rebounded from a seven-point deficit in the second set by elevating its level of play, he said.

"They stayed aggressive, found holes in their defense and we covered the floor well to limit their offense," Sussenguth said. "We've shown we can dominate both offensively and defensively. We'll hopefully continue to make the complete effort to make that consistent throughout an entire match."
