Local Roundup: Three named volleyball All-Staters
Willmar's Esther Grussing, Morris/Chokio-Alberta's Karly Fehr and MACCRAY's Sydney Schwitters were named to the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association All-State teams.
Grussing and Fehr were both named to the First Team for Class AAA and AA, respectively. Schwitters was an honorable mention for the Wolverines in Class A.
Grussing led the Cardinals to the Section 8AAA final with 988 set assists, 255 digs, 54 solo blocks and 41 ace serves.
Also reaching her team's section final, Fehr had 815 set assists, 251 digs, 94 kills and a 98 percent serve accuracy.
Schwitters led a strong Wolverines attack with 771 set assists and 228 digs.
Three area football players will cap their prep football seasons among the top talent in the state the 2017 Minnesota Football Showcase at U.S. Bank Stadium in December.
Willmar offensive lineman Cameron Murphy, Litchfield defensive end Kal Jackman and BOLD defensive end Austin Einerson were among the 97 selections to play in the North vs. South format.
Murphy, a captain for the Cardinals, was named the North Central White District Offensive Lineman of the Year. At center, the senior steadied the offensive line for an offense that averaged over 30 points per game.
Jackman was a key part of the Dragons defense, totaling 53 tackles and two sacks in his senior season.
Einerson was one of the area's top two-way threats for a 10-1 BOLD team this year. Einerson made 39 tackles as a disruptive force on the Warriors defensive line while rushing for 770 yards on 75 carries.
The game is set for a 3 p.m. kickoff on December 9 following a few hours of football clinics.
