LITCHFIELD - Cole Eiden, Trent Raisanen and Jake Johnson scored three-straight second period goal in a span of about 90 seconds as Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato downed Windom 3-1 on Saturday at the Litchfield Civic Arena.

Eiden scored unassisted, as did Raisanen with a short-handed tally. Johnson scored on assists from Blake Johnson and Brandt Pederson.

The L/DC defense allowed Windom just 13 shots and goalie Darby Halonen stopped 12 of them.

Alyssa Olson scored the game-winner at 7:41 of the third period as Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato edged Windom on Saturday in Windom.

Olson assisted on Ella Hansen's first-period goal and after Windom took a 2-1 lead, L/DC's Kristen Jones tied the game with assists from Olson and Hansen at 9:37 of the second period.

L/DC goalie Avery Stilwell stopped 16 of 18 Windom shots.

Youth Bowling

Willmar falls short at MQT

The Willmar High School bowling team fell four points short of advancing to the final round of eight teams at the MQT tournament last week.

The Cardinals were hoping to earn a top-five finish that would have put them into the Minnesota state tournament on Saturday in Bloomington.

The MQT tournament is a way for teams that don't win their conferences to still earn a state spot.

Alexandria won the West Central Conference to advance to state.

Willmar 6, Alexandria 2

A pair of unassisted goals late in the second period turned the tide and helped the Willmar WarHawks gain a split of two holiday weekend games on Saturday against the Blizzard at the Willmar Civic Center.

Willmar fell 5-2 at New Ulm on Friday night.

Against the Blizzard, Sam Voss and Max Oelkers scored first-period goals to put the WarHawks up 2-0.

But Alexandria scored the first two goals of the second period to tie the game. Then the WarHawks' Zach Martin and Brandon Holt both scored unassisted in the final five minutes of the second, and Jacob Berkowitz and Martin added third-period goals to put the game out of reach.

Willmar goalie Drake Voell turned back 29 shots to get the victory.

The WarHawks play a home-and-home against Granite City this weekend, playing at Granite City on Dec. 1 and at home on Dec. 2.

Willmar held a brief lead in the first period but New Ulm scored the final four goals of the game and defeated the WarHawks in New Ulm on Friday.

Zach Martin and Jordan Cooper both scored first-period goals to five the WarHawks a 2-1 lead midway through the period. But the Steel had two power play goals among their final four to wrap it up.

College Football

Zylstra is Harlon Hill candidate

Former New London-Spicer star and Minnesota State Mankato receiver Shane Zylstra is a Super Region 4 finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, NCAA Division II's version of the Heisman Trophy.

A total of 34 student-athletes, including eight from Super Region 4, have been named to the regional ballots, with the top two players from each region moving on to the national ballot when regional voting concludes on Monday.

The 2017 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Zylstra has 47 catches for 794 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2017. He led the NSIC in receiving yards and touchdown catches this year and his 14 touchdown catches before Saturday stood tied for the second-most in a season in Minnesota State history.

Minnesota State (13-0) defeated Midwestern State 63-21 on Saturday to advance to the third round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Zylstra caught two passes for 25 yards and a touchdown and he carried once for eight yards.

The Mavericks play Texas A&M Commerce at noon Saturday in Mankato.

MN S.W.A.T. wins Arizona tourney

The MN S.W.A.T. 14U baseball team from Grove City won the Arizona USSSA Veterans Salute Tournament held November 10-12 in Peoria, AZ. The team went undefeated in the tournament winning all six games. Team members include Zach Bagley, Ian Koosman, Cayden Hansen, Graham Jacobson, Brock Denton, Jack Peterson, and Jake Clauson, Connor Barker, Landon Kolles, Ryan Weatherly, Jonah Polson, Sam Etterman, head coach Rich Schieck and assistant coach Jason Denton,.
