WILLMAR - On Tuesday night, Becker learned what many other Section 5AAA and Central Lakes Conference opponents will find out throughout the season: It isn't very fun to play against Willmar.

The Cardinals held the Bulldogs to 12 first-half points, utilizing a 16-point lead at the break en route to a 62-57 win to improve to 3-0 on the year.

A trademark balanced offensive attack was in full effect for Willmar, with Madi Linbo, Carly Wedel and Sadie Raitz each scoring 11 points to lead the way. Wedel finished with a double-double, as well, pulling down 12 rebounds.

The Cardinals held the Bulldogs—expected to be one of the top challengers to Willmar, the reigning section champion—scoreless over the final 6 minutes, 30 seconds as a 12-0 run to end the half broke the game open and made the lead 28-12. Hannah Johnson capped the spurt with in impressive fashion, deflecting a pass and buried a running 3-pointer as the first half buzzer sounded, sending the home bench into a frenzy.

In the second half, the Cardinals' lead fluctuated between 14 and 18 points, with Becker taking advantage of turnovers and cutting the deficit to 12 at 40-28 with 10:53 to play in the game. With the margin still at 12 points four minutes later, Caitlin Ogdahl and Cayle Hovland buried jumpers on consecutive possessions as part of a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 18.

Carly Magnuson then knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:30 remaining to extend the advantage to 55-34, Willmar's largest lead through that point. Madi Linbo connected on layups on back-to-back possessions later on to put the Cardinals up 61-37 with 3:15 left. The 24-point lead would be Willmar's largest of the evening as the Bulldogs kept their starting unit in and continued to apply full-court pressure, scoring 15 points in the final three minutes.

Becker was held to 31.9 percent shooting on the night and only attempted two free throws, while the Cardinals hit on 43.1 percent of their shots and made 13 of 18 free throw attempts.

Willmar did struggle at times, however, with the full-court pressure, turning the ball over 20 times.

The Cardinals are now off until next Tuesday when they look to win their second CLC game in two tries on the road against St. Cloud Apollo.
