ST. PAUL—Four area wrestlers etched their names in Minnesota state wrestling history, capturing state titles in an eventful Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.

KMS' Will Magaard (106A), Willmar's Clay (132AAA) and Cael Carlson (138AAA), and BBE's Adam Jaeger (160A) each captured state titles for an impressive West Central Minnesota showing.

Both Carlsons and Jaeger each capped perfect seasons. Clay and Cael Carlson logged perfect 48-0 records and Jaeger finished his season at 34-0.

Magaard started the championship round with a bang, defeating Medford's seventh grade powerhouse Charley Elwood by a 10-7 decision for the 106-pound Class A title. The title is the first for a KMS Saint since Joel Bauman won it in 2010 for the second time.

Magaard nearly got caught on his back twice in the second round to the seventh grade star from Medford, but he used his experience to get the win, his 46th of the season.

"All of the hard work paid off," Magaard said. "I took him down right away and just kept after him. Now, I'm just going to eat."

The Carlsons couldn't focus on food with their adrenaline going following their state championship victories.

"I'm just going to crash and get some sleep," Cael said. "I'm not even hungry, I'm just so amped up. It's beyond words."

Clay, also still buzzing after capping his senior year off with a 10-4 decision victory over Apple Valley's Sebas Swiggum, said he could find a way to make some room for food.

"Steak and potatoes," Clay said. "That's what I want. I've been cutting weight for so long and it's worth it, but I'm ready for some steak and potatoes."

Cael, for the record, is an ice cream guy and just wants a treat of his choice from Cold Stone Creamery.

Jaeger battled for a 3-1 decision victory over Jackson County Central's Jacob Tvinnereim to earn the 152-pound state title in Class A. The Jaguar battled injury at the start of the year, but you wouldn't know it from the way her performed all season. He finished the tournament with an opening round pin, followed by three decisions to complete the blemish-free season.

His fellow BBE teammate, Canon Swanson, fell just short at 120 pounds, losing by a 4-0 decision to Sibley East's Dayne Morton in the final. Swanson wrapped up his sophomore season with a 47-3 record and a second place finish to his name.

United's Peyton Mortenson also lost by a four-point decision, this time to Cade Mueller from Waconia. The 5-1 loss put Peyton Mortenson at 41-3 to end the season, also in second place.

Seven other medalists joined the six finalists in the last session of the tournament Saturday evening. Israel Navarro, who was forced into the third place match following a freak pin in the semifinal to eventual runner-up Drew Woodley of Northfield, captured the third place title by a tight 2-1 decision win over Minnetonka's Boyd Mumbuwa.

BBE's Tyler Bents (132A) also went home with a third place finish, defeating Nate Hart of Ottertail Central 5-2.

Litchfield's Afton Kaping (132AA) and Chase Liestman (285AA) wrapped up their tournaments with fourth place finishes while Paynesville's Grant Ludwig (220A) wrapped up his senior year with a fifth place win.

BBE's Blaine Fischer (113A) and Litchfield's Jerry Simes (120AA) each took home sixth place.
