NLS opens 3AA playoffs with win

NEW LONDON — A big first half propelled New London-Spicer to an 82-48 victory over Montevideo in the Wildcats' Section 3AA opener on Saturday.

The Wildcats' Brandon Adelman scored 18 points and had five rebounds and seven assists. Ryan Wyganowski and Tristan Thompson both scored 14 points.

Montevideo's Isaac Hoogeveen scored 12 points and Cole Sandven scored 11.

NLS plays a second-round game against Redwood Valley at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3A quarterfinals.

Minnewaska earned a date with Morris/Chokio-Alberta in the Section 3AA quarterfinals with a win over Benson on Saturday.

Ryan Amundson led the Lakers with 15 points and Jackson Johnsrud finished with 12. Matt Gruber scored 11 points.

Matt Goossen, Sam Lundebrek and Hunter Gonnerman all scored five points for the Braves.

Minnewaska takes on Morris/CA at 6 p.m. Thursday.

BBE notched its second Section 5A win by downing Swanville on Saturday in Foley.

BBE's Morgan Gronli scored 18 points, Macie Kirckof had 12 points and Nicole Wesbur had 10 points and nine rebounds. Cassandra Tensen had nine points, six assists and five steals and Grace Illies had eight points and eight boards.

BBE plays East Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Foley.

Willmar 5, Rochester 1

Peyton Bolstad and Wyatt Toll both scored twice and Bolstad also had two assists as Willmar defeated Rochester on Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center.

Willmar scored power play goals in the first period and to open the second, which was plenty for the WarHawks' defense and goalie Kaden Erickson, who stopped 11 of the 12 shots Rochester mustered.

Jacob Berkowitz scored Willmar's other goal and assisted on two others, Brandon Holt had two assists, and Tanner Dahle, Braden Shea, Eli Slagter and Max Oelkers also had assists.

The WarHawks wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against Granite City this weekend.

Granite City plays in Willmar on Friday and Willmar travels to Granite Falls on Saturday.
