Prep wrestling: Cardinals down Sauk Rapids-Rice

WILLMAR — The Willmar Cardinals won their second match in a row, downing Sauk Rapids-Rice 40-18 on Tuesday in Willmar.

“We’re turning it around,” Willmar head coach Ed Oehlers said. “We’ve lost a lot of duals due to injuries and illness, but a lot of guys returned and we wrestled very well.”

Cardinal seniors Nate Mittag (126) and Cass Herzog (285) won their final home matches, with Mittag pinning David Nelson in 3:56 and Herzog pinning Trent Klejeski in 2:55.

Willmar’s Estevan Navarro (138) also won on a pin, with Juan Resendez (113), Logan Walkow (120), Austin Miley (132), Travis Deegan (145), Colten Carlson (152), Vaughn Johnson (160) and Darius O’Neill (182) winning on decisions.

The Cardinals next wrestle Thursday at Minnetonka.
