Prep wrestling: NLS moves on in 6AA

NEW LONDON — Seven wins in the first eight matches of their Section 6AA team quarterfinal Tuesday sparked the No. 2-seeded New London-Spicer Wildcats past Princeton 51-17 and into Friday’s semifinals.

NLS will meet No. 3 Becker, a 64-12 winner over No. 6 Litchfield, at 6 p.m. Friday in Big Lake with the winner advancing the section final at approximately 7:30 p.m. The other 6 p.m. semifinal Friday pits No. 1 Foley against either No. 4 Big Lake or No. 5 Annandale/Maple Lake.

The Wildcats collected seven falls Tuesday: Tom Stageberg at 106 pounds, Jakob Stageberg at 113, Treyton Austvold at 126, Logan Brink at 138, Cameron Steffen at 152, Grant Vagle at 170 and heavyweight Rick Berry.

NLS also got major decisions from Logan Eckhoff at 132 and Corbin Schwartz at 145, and a 10-8 decision from Luke Gould at 182.
