Prep Baseball Roundup: NLS hammers GFW

MINNEAPOLIS — New London-Spicer scored early and often Friday in its season opener as the Wildcats thumped Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 16-1 in a non-conference game at the Metrodome.

NLS batted around in the first and fifth innings and sent up 11 batters to the plate in the second where it produced six runs to take a commanding 10-0 lead after two innings of play.

Ryan Vraa knocked in four runs and Grant Vagle drove in another after both collected three hits to pace the Wildcats’ 15-hit attack. Brady Schmitz and Nick Bergeson added two hits each while Logan Brink scored three times.

With the game in control already, NLS starter Tyson Gislason picked up the win after limiting the Thunderbirds to two hits while striking out three in two innings of work. Vraa, Lucas Nordmeyer and Johnny DeGeest each got in an inning of work.
