Prep Softball: Cards fall to New Prague

ROSEMOUNT – The Willmar Cardinals softball team had a rough start to the 2013 season, falling behind New Prague by six runs in the first two innings and eventually succumbing 12-2 in the Rosemount dome on Saturday.

The Cardinals’ Jordan Martins and Megan Rudnick collected the teams’ only hits.

McKenzie Hastad drove in a Willmar run and Kassy Linbo and Martins scored runs.

New Prague’s efficient offense produced 12 runs on 13 hits and six Trojans hitters drove in 11 runs.

Pitcher Leah Ruter took the loss, working the first two innings before being relieved by Lexi Kopacek, who worked the final four innings.
