Amateur Baseball Roundup: NLS Twins score 3 times in 12th to edge Milroy

SPICER — New London-Spicer scored three runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat Milroy 4-3 on Sunday in a non-league game.

The Yankees scored a run in the second and the Twins tied it with a run in the seventh. Otherwise, Milroy pitcher Anthony Rohlik and NLS’ Nathaniel Swoyer owned the game. Neither pitcher got a decision, but Rohlik worked nine innings and struck out five while Swoyer pitched into the 12th inning, allowing just two earned runs, no walks and striking out four.

Tyler Horning homered, doubled and drove in two runs and Mike Danielson and Steven Ammermann both had two hits.

Riley Carpenter, who took the loss, had two hits and drove in a run for the Yankees.

Sacred Heart’s Mike Kuschel finished a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI single that knocked in Ryan Hebrink with the winning run in the bottom half of the 10th inning.

Granite Falls led for the first part of the game until Hebrink homered leading off the fourth and the Saints (1-1, 3-4) plated four runs in the fifth. A Granite Falls run in the sixth knotted the game at 5-5.

Steve Jakel pitched a scoreless 10th to collect the win. Nate Hebrink went the first nine for the Saints, striking out seven and surrendering seven hits and one walk.

Tyler Dammann, Tyler Kanten and Andrew Walters had two hits each for the Kilowatts, while Aaron Zieske drove in two runs.

Stearns County Classic

The Raymond Rockets were 1-2 in the Stearns County Classic this weekend, with the win coming against the defending state champions.

The Rockets’ Jordan Smith pitched an impressive game and drove in the lone run in the Rockets’ 1-0 win over defending state champ Maple Lake in their first Classic game on Saturday in St. Martin.

They fell 5-0 to Sobieski on Saturday in St. Martin, then lost 2-1 to the St. Cloud Snappers in Lake Henry on Sunday.

Smith worked seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight against Maple Lake. Zach Nelson and Tyler Knott took the losses against Sobieski and the Snappers.

Kyle Knott was 2-for-3 against Maple Lake and Mike Jeseritz, Smith, Jason Meyer and Calvin Kosminskas all had hits.

Tyler Steen, who doubled, and Nelson had the only hits against Sobieski.

Against the Snappers, Jeseritz, Smith, Meyer, Nelson had hits and John Sawatzke doubled in the Rockets’ run.

The Rockets, 7-2, play the Cold Spring Springers at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Raymond.

Bird Island 11, Dassel-Cokato 10

A throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed Bird Island to score the winning run Saturday.

The Bullfrogs trailed 10-6 heading into the eighth but they scored four runs to tie. Then, in the ninth, Bird Island’s Mark Neubauer led off with a single. Luke Kramer bunted and D-C tried to throw to second to get Neubauer and the throw sailed into the outfield, allowing Neubauer to come around and score.

Tyler Hebrink was 4-for-5 and drove in two runs and Shawn Dollerschell had two hits and drove in three runs. Logan Swan and Ben Maiers both had two hits and two RBIs. In addition to scoring the winning run, Neubauer had three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run.
