Prep Baseball: Sandgren tosses no-hitter to help BOLD advance to 2A title game

MANKATO — Logan Sangren hurled a five-inning no-hitter and Trevor Nissen’s three hits supplied five runs as the BOLD Warriors walloped Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 12-0 at Franklin Rogers Field on Saturday to advance to the championship game in the Section 2A playoffs.

The No. 3-seeded Warriors (14-6) from the North sub-section are unbeaten in the playoffs, thanks to consecutive no-hitters. Riley Kramer threw a no-no against top-ranked Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in BOLD’s 6-0 win Thursday.

BOLD has the next three days off until it plays the winner of Tuesday’s loser’s bracket final. Mankato Loyola and Minnesota Valley Lutheran play at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the winner playing W-E-M at 7:30 p.m. to determine BOLD’s opponent on Thursday.

Sandgren walked two and fanned seven.

BOLD scored six in the second and four in the third. Nissen, who was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, hit a bases-clearing triple in the second and knocked out W-E-M starter Nolan Grose with a two-run double in the third. All of the Warriors’ runs in the second came with two outs.

Austin Weis and Tyler Rock, at the bottom of the order, each had two hits and scored three times. Rock’s two hits were a pair of RBI singles.
