Stingers push win streak to seven
WILLMAR - The only thing in Willmar hotter than the Stingers right now is the grill at Frieda's Cafe.
The Stingers pushed their win streak to seven in a row with a dominant 10-6 win over the Waterloo Bucks Friday night at Bill Taunton Stadium. Willmar outhit Waterloo 16-5 with an offensive barrage from all nine batters in the lineup.
Caleb Ricca led with a 3-for-4 performance and a pair of runs scored but he was joined in the hit column by his remaining eight teammates. Five Stinger teammates joined Ricca with multi-hit games.
Designated hitter Sebastian Samuels got the scoring going with a two-run double in the third inning as part of his four-RBI day at the plate. He came around to score on the following at-bat, a two-out triple by centerfielder Jaxon Hallmark.
Waterloo cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, knocking Stinger starter Sam Gardner out of the game but that was as close as the Bucks would make things.
The Stingers responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by another two-run hit by Samuels. Third baseman Shea Kramer and rightfielder Richie Garcia each earned RBI singles in the inning as well.
Waterloo attempted a comeback with four runs in the eighth inning, led by a three-run double by Patrick Ferguson, but the rally ended on the following at-bat. Davis Elliot added a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to put the Stingers' 10th run on the board and keep the game out of reach.
