Girls Tennis: SC Apollo/Sauk Rapids tumbles Cardinals

ST. CLOUD — Willmar won at the top two singles slots, but the Cardinals couldn’t pick up any other wins Thursday as St. Cloud Apollo/Sauk Rapids toppled the visiting Cardinals 5-2 in a Central Lakes Conference dual.

“Cayle Hovland and Hannah Hansen played well and overpowered their opponents,” said Willmar coach Jim Anderson. “We’ll continue to try to battle through our lack of experience.”

Hovland won 6-0, 6-4 at 1-singles and Hansen collected a 7-5, 6-1 victory at 2-singles. The five Apollo/Sauk Rapids wins all came in straight sets.

The Cardinals are at the 9 a.m. Monticello Triangular on Saturday to face the host Magic and Becker, both Section 8AA rivals.
