Boys Soccer: Cardinals soar past Hutchinson 10-0

WILLMAR — The Cardinals scored four goals in a nine-minute span of the first half and went on to spill Section 2A rival Hutchinson 10-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Elementary pitch.

Willmar attacker Isaac Yoakum opened the scoring with a rush down the right wing and a 25-footer, followed three minutes later by a precise swinging-gate kick from low on the left post.

Juan Contreras, listed as a midfielder, charged the net for consecutive goals at 15:00 and 19:00, one coming on a rifle shot from 30 feet out coming up the middle.

Yoakum opened the scoring in the second half and finished with four points.

Shot were 23-3 in Willmar’s favor. Goalie Max Trochlil had a relaxing, though hot, day. He did make a diving save on a dead-on shot in the first half.

Willmar (3-1-1) as a tough week ahead with road matches at Brainerd (3-2) on Tuesday and Alexandria (2-3) on Thursday.
