Girls soccer: Sabres blank Cards

SARTELL — Sartell-St. Stephen’s Sophie VanSurksum scored 10 minutes into the first half to open the floodgates on a 6-0 Sabre win over the Willmar Cardinals on Tuesday.

“It looked pretty promising the first 10 minutes,” Willmar head coach Chelsea Brown said. “Everything was running smoothly. That first goal kind of stung us.”

The Sabres scored three more in the first half, including two from Katie Stuttgen in consecutive minutes.

Jordan Martins made eight saves in the net for Willmar, but the Sabres out-shot the Cardinals 14-2.

Willmar fell to 0-5-1 in the Central Lakes Conference and 1-5-2 overall.
