WILLMAR — A big and talented Mankato East/Loyola girls hockey team held the Willmar Cardinals without a score for a 4-0 Section 2A victory on Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Arena.

The Cougars are 4-0 against section foes while Willmar is one of four section teams with one win in the six-team district.

The Cardinals put 22 shots on goalie Katie Paulson but none got through. The pressure at the other end came in regular waves where Johnika Wodash faced 31 shots from a team that is now 11-3 with several college recruits.

One of those is senior forward Amanda Broman who scored a pair of goals before leaving the game in the third period after slamming into the Willmar cage. Broman, who is the daughter of 1982 Willmar graduate Mark Broman, will play for St. Scholastica in Duluth.

The Cards had four powerplay chances starting at 4:01 of the third period but couldn’t make a dent.

Next up is a three-day tournament starting Thursday in New Hope playing Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper.
