Erickson shackles Willmar
WILLMAR -- Alexandria's Colin Erickson allowed just two hits over the last five innings to handcuff the Willmar Cardinals in 6-3 in a Central Lakes Conference baseball contest Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
The loss drops Willmar to 7-4 in the league and 8-6 overall.
Erickson struck out 12 and walked just one to capture the complete-game victory. He retired the last six batters of the game.
Willmar struggled to start the game on defense, allowing four runs on two hits, two walks and two errors.
Alexandria (6-4, 7-7) had a hard time getting going also, allowing three runs in the first two innings. Leadoff batter Austin Adamson started Willmar's half of the first inning with a strikeout that got away from the Alexandria catcher, allowing him to take first base. Matt Odom singled. Adamson scored on a wild pitch and John Sawatzky drove in the other run with an infield single.
Odom had an RBI single in the second inning.
Willmar starter Nathaniel Swoyer rebounded from a rough first inning to allow just two runs on eight hits in the last six innings. Overall he struck out five and walked two.
