WILLMAR -- Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg won its fourth straight Willmar Invitational Wrestling title on Friday night in a showdown with Eden Valley-Watkins.

The Fighting Saints finished with 196 points to 189.5 for the runner-up Eagles.

Yellow Medicine East was third with 153.5 points, followed by Benson, Waska and Willmar.

The Saints won here despite heavy graduation losses following their state championship run in 2008-09.

The meet drew nine teams this year compared to seven a year ago. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Montevideo were not in the field last year.

Joel Bauman of KMS, at 189, was the only repeat champion in the field. Aaron Doraska, at 140 pound, also won an individual title for KMS.

Benson and EVW each had three champions.

Willmar champions were Alex Johannes at 125 and Coty Milhausen at 145.

KMS piled up early points with nine pins in the pigtail and the quarterfinal round. The Saints finished with nine wrestlers placing in the top three.

No other details were available as the tournament concluded late. Complete results will appear in Monday's paper.
