Gymnastics: Willmar's Weiler 22nd in all-around at state meet

ST. PAUL -- Willmar's Abbey Weiler placed 22nd in the all-around competition at the state Class A gymnastics meet Saturday at University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.

She also finished 16th in the individual floor exercise with a 9.15.

"It was her best floor, her best vault and best beam," said Willmar coach Larry Selchow. "But all of these girls had such tough routines."

Weiler, who had a combined 34.775 in the all-around, posted a 9.175 in the vault, a 9.2 on the balance beam and a 7.625 on the uneven bars.

Jenna Schmitz of Perham won the all-around title with a 38.075 and also won the uneven bars title wit ha 9.675.

"The competition was the most difficult I've seen in Class A," Selchow said. "They were throwing things that I've seen in double-A, but never before seen in single-A."

Willmar's Kelsey Jacobson took 19th in the vault with a 9.375 and Haley Stahl of New London-Spicer was 24th with a 9.275. Briquelle Bowden of Paynesville/Eden Valley-Watkins finished 18th on uneven bars with an 8.65 and 28th in the floor exercise with an 8.625. Kelsi Magers of Redwood Valley was 26th in the all-around with a 34.150, including 18th in the vault and 30th on the beam.
