Willmar repels Little Falls, 1-0
LITTLE FALLS -- All you need is one.
That's what the Willmar softball team got: one run. And it was good enough to beat Little Falls 1-0 in a Central Lakes Conference softball game Friday.
The Cardinals (5-4, 7-6) scored in the top of the sixth inning when Sara Kallhoff, going to third base on Heather Horning's single, was able to turn the corner and go to home plate on a throwing error.
Horning and the Willmar defense did the rest on the field. Horning scattered five hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
Little Falls, which didn't hit the ball out of the infield, had a runner in scoring position in each of the first four innings, then had a runner at second in the seventh, but didn't cash in.
The Cardinals had similar problems at the plate. Willmar had seven hits -- Addy Nelsen and Karlee Johnson led the way with two hits each -- but Pederson said two potential rallies were wiped out by double plays.
Jamie Jenks had two hits to lead the Flyers (1-8, 4-11).
