Prep Softball: Willmar's 7th-inning rally sinks Storm
SAUK RAPIDS -- Nothing like waiting until the last moment to start a rally.
The Willmar Cardinals trailed Sauk Rapids 4-1 in the top of the seventh and were down to their last out.
That's when the fireworks started and a five-run surge propelled Willmar to a 6-4 victory in Central Lakes softball on Thursday.
With two outs, pinch-hitter Valor Gorans walked, Addy Nelsen singled and Samantha Williams walked to load the bases. Sara Kallhoff lashed a grounder through the middle, scoring two runs to make it 4-3.
A double steal put runners at second and third. Heather Horning was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, bringing up Laura Swartz, who singled in two more runs for a 5-4 lead. Sarah Roehl followed with an RBI single for a two-run cushion.
Horning walked one and fanned six while scattering eight hits for the win.
The Storm scored three unearned runs in the first when the Cardinals committed all three of their errors.
Willmar was outhit 8-6 but worked six walks off losing pitcher Bailey Wirens.
