Prep Softball: Willmar starts busy week with come-from-behind win

WILLMAR -- In a busy week, the Willmar Cardinals have started well, coming from three runs down to stop Fergus Falls 9-5 on Monday in a Central Lakes Conference softball game.

It's the first of six scheduled games for the Cardinals (7-3, 9-6) in five days.

The Otters (6-6, 7-7) had nudged the Cards at Fergus Falls 10-9 in the opener.

Trailing 5-2 in the fifth, back-to-back doubles by Casey Marcus and Sarah Roehl produced one run and a bases-loaded single by Laura Swartz added two more to tie the score 5-5.

In the four-run sixth, Roehl's two-run single scored Lindsey Atchison and Marcus for the lead. Sara Kallhoff followed with a sacrifice fly and winning pitcher Heather Horning capped the rally with an RBI single.

Double plays started by Roehl at second base and later Kallhoff at shortstop defused Fergus threats.
