Prep Baseball: Swoyer, Willmar blank Rocori

COLD SPRING -- Nathanial Swoyer tossed a three-hit shutout and Dean Stier doubled in the game's only run as Willmar blanked Rocori 1-0 Monday in a Central Lakes Conference baseball game.

Swoyer held Rocori (6-5, 9-6) hitless over the last four innings and worked out of an early bases-loaded jam to help Willmar (2-6, 2-10) collect its second win of the season. Swoyer struck out five and didn't issue a walk.

The Cardinals had runners in scoring position in the first, third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but they could only capitalize in the third. Ryan Horning reached on an error and stole second base to get into scoring position. Stier then belted a double to drive in Horning.

Rocori starter Trent Rothstein also went the distance, giving up four hits without issuing a walk or getting a strikeout, but his teammates couldn't manufacture any offense.

The Spartans did load the bases in the third with the help of two Willmar errors, but Stier, playing first, threw out a runner at home with Jason Gunvalson catching and Swoyer struck out Garrett Fuchs to end the inning.

The teams face off again today in Willmar.
