Willmar's Jackson qualifies for state track in four events

Rose Jackson, a Willmar sophomore, won four events at the Section 2AA track and field meet at Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday.

Jackson will compete in the state meet June 10-11 at Hamline University in St. Paul in the 100 and 200 dash, the long jump and as a member of the 4x200 relay. Other members of the relay team are Shelby Lyn-Schneider, Brittney Anderson and Sam Bierbaum.

Lyn-Schneider qualified for state in the 400, finishing second.

The Willmar boys' 4x200 relay team of Drue Backhaus, Eugene Stepan, Chris Odens and Jeremy Schendel also finished first.

Baylie Young narrowly missed qualifying in the girls' 100 hurdles, finishing third, but did break the Willmar school record in a time of 15.84. The old record of 16.3 was held by Shelby Morton in 2008.
