Boys Soccer: Willmar outlasts Alexandria in OT

WILLMAR -- Tim Rogers scored an overtime goal to lift the Willmar Cardinals over Alexandria 3-2 on Monday in Willmar.

Willmar led 2-0 until late in the game when they allowed consecutive goals at 77:00 and 78:00.

"We got complacent. We decided it was over," Willmar coach Jeff Winter said. "There were just a couple minutes left ... We let them back in it."

Rogers ended it at 88:00 with a hard shot in the bottom corner of the net to the right of Alexandria goalie Zach Lamb.

Remigio Becerra got the assist on the goal after winning the ball on the side and working it down the flank to get it to Rogers.

Graham Dahl and Handerson Tevelan also scored for Willmar, both coming in the first half.

"We played strong in the first half and we had many chances to score," Winter said. "Just couldn't put that third one in."

Willmar is now 9-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the Central Lakes Conference.

Their next game is Thursday at Sartell.
