WILLMAR — Wayzata proved why both the boys and girls cross country teams are nationally-known, winning in commanding fashion in Saturday's Willmar Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

The hosts had an impressive showing of their own, taking second in the girls race.

The Trojans, however, stole the show, winning with 18 points in the boys race and 27 in the girls. Five of the top six boys finishers were from Wayzata, including winner Khalid Hussein who crossed the finish line in 16:04.22. The Cardinal boys finished in sixth place of 10 teams with leading finisher Hudeife Mire crossing the line at 16:56.29 for 11th place.

Willmar's second place girls team scored 79 points, edging third place Marshall who finished with 81 points. Heidi Schmitz led the way for the Cardinals, taking sixth place with a time of 19:20.65. She wasn't alone with her success as teammates Leah Hansen (13th place), Serena Monson (18th place) and Nina Dawson (20th place) each finished in the top-20.
