Northwoods Baseball: Stingers silence Honkers 21-11

ROCHESTER -- The bats were busy at Mayo Field on Monday -- both teams collected 17 hits -- and when the dust cleared the Willmar Stingers had a 21-11 win over the Rochester Honkers.

Kenny Roberts paced the Stingers with a grand slam in a six-run second inning and a two-run triple in the first. Forrestt Allday and Zach Benson also hit their first home runs of the season for the Stingers.

Willmar later erupted for 10 runs in the sixth. Every Willmar starter scored and had at least one hit. Mitch Rowan and Allday had three hits each.

Chad Wallach racked up two RBI on two hits for the Honkers. He homered in the sixth inning and singled in the third and ninth innings.

Even though Kyle Fischer allowed seven runs over five innings he still recorded the victory, his third of the season. He struck out two, walked four and surrendered eight hits.

Jared Miller (2-1) took the loss for Rochester. He allowed nine runs in two innings, walked four and struck out three.

The Stingers easily handled the Rochester pitching as they drew 15 walks.

The teams hook up again today in Rochester for another 7:05 p.m. start.
