This is the first of the Tribune's 2018 prep football Game of the Week features. Tribune sportswriters Joe Brown and Jake Schultz will break down the upcoming week's top matchup, and district standings and Pigskin Picks—on B2 in this edition of the Tribune—will also be part of the weekly package.

This week, Joe takes a look at Friday's big BOLD-Paynesville matchup, and in Friday's paper Jake will have an in-depth take on the rivalry between the Warriors and Bulldogs.

BOLD at Paynesville

7 p.m. Friday at Paynesville

Fresh off an appearance in the Class AA state tournament last fall, Paynesville looks to knock off BOLD in the season opener for the first time since 2015 in West Central Minnesota's marquee matchup.

The host Bulldogs bring back several of its key players from last year, starting with All-District picks Max Weidner at QB/LB, Zach Schroeder at RB/WR/S and Trevor Hemmesch at OT/NT. At CB, Luke Johnson was an All-District second teamer, and Levi Bast (WR/S) and Sam Oehrlein (CB/WR) are both All-Section players returning to a lineup that finished in the Class AA top 10 last year in points scored (38.8, fifth) and point differential (13.6, 10th).

As for BOLD, they're looking for its first state trip since 2014 and have the veteran lineup to do so. Their top passer, Jordan Sagedahl (1,816 yards, 30 touchdowns) has a pair of 700-yard, double-digit receivers back in Luke Ryan (34 catches, 758 yards, 13 TDs) and Gavin Vosika (35-742-11) back out wide. And on defense, the team's top three tackers return in Dawson Vosika (98), Hayden Tersteeg (91) and Cade Morse (74) are back in the fold.

In last year's season-opening matchup, the Warriors claimed a 51-8 win in Olivia.
