Raptor Center coming to Habitat Day '08
LITCHFIELD -- Everyone is welcome to attend "Habitat Day 2008" from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service headquarters in Litchfield.
This year's event will include a visit by the Raptor Center from St. Paul. A variety of live birds, including a bald eagle, will be on site. Programs will be offered explaining the role of Minnesota's birds of prey in the environment.
There will also be pre-cut wood duck kits available for assembly at the event. Volunteers will help those looking to assemble a wood duck house and offer advice on where to place the nesting boxes.
A special guest this year will be the "Wildlife Wizard.'' The guest will quiz children and adults on the wildlife and habitat of the area.
The Crow River Organization of Water will also staff a booth and offer face painting for children.
The event is also an opportunity to learn about how to build different types of bird and bat houses and bird feeders.
The event is free and every one is welcome. The U.S Fish and Wildlife headquarters are located at 22274 615th Avenue south of Lake Ripley. Take Minnesota Highway 22 (Sibley Avenue) to the south edge of Litchfield and turn west on South Ripley Drive/615th Avenue (along the southeast shore of Lake Ripley).
