Sheepshead tournament will be June 20

NEW LONDON -- The 16th annual Sheepshead Fishing tournament will be held Saturday, June 20 on Norway Lake.

Registration will be from 8-9 a.m. at Dilley's Resort on Norway Lake. The tournament runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee per boat.

Prizes of $100, $50 and $25 are awarded for the largest fish, and the largest and second largest stringers of fish.

There are also raffle prizes as part of the fund raising effort for the Norway, Games and West Norway Lakes Association.

Last year's competition saw anglers in more than 30 boats seek the less-than-elusive fish. Lots of four pounders were hauled, and previous years have seen some fish tip the scales at six and seven pounds, according to Ron Dilley of Dilley's Resort.

He said the best advice on how to find sheepshead is to fish for walleye or other game fish, and the sheepshead are sure to show up. For more information, contact the resort at 320-354-4266.
