Legion Baseball: BOLD doubles up Willmar 6-3

WILLMAR — The top five hitters in BOLD’s lineup contributed 9 of the team’s 10 hits to spark the top-ranked Mudhens’ 6-3 win over Willmar Tuesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Leadoff hitter Tyler Rock, No. 2 Tyler Seehusen, No. 3 Trevor Nissen and No. 5 Logan Sangren had two hits each for BOLD, while cleanup hitter and winning pitcher Riley Kramer added a hit.

The Mudhens also got a singled from Sawyer Tersteeg. BOLD scored single runs in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings, and produced two runs in the fifth after the first three hitters reached base.

Rock reached on an error to lead off the game and later scored in the frame to give BOLD a quick 1-0 lead. Sandgren singled to lead off the second before scoring on Ben Steffel’s sacrifice fly to right field.

After a scoreless third, BOLD struck again in the fourth when Tersteeg singled to lead off the frame and came around to score on Rock’s double. Nissen, Kramer and Sandgren opened the fifth with back-to-back-to-back singles with Sandgren’s hit knocking in Nissen and Kramer after both moved up a base on a passed ball.

Rock closed out the BOLD scoring by singling in the sixth and coming home on Nissen’s fielder’s choice.

Kramer worked the first six innings on the hill to earn the win. The senior-to-be allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking four.

Tersteeg worked out of a bases-loaded game in the seventh to pick up the win.

Willmar produced two runs in the sixth to cut BOLD’s lead to 6-3. Brandon Christenson got hit by a pitch to open the inning and Tony McCleary followed with a single and Evan VanDenEinde drew a walk to load the bases. Sam Scarbaure then got hit by a pitch to allow Christenson to come home. Two batters later Tyler Stegeman hit a flyball to right, allowing McCleary to score.

Stegeman scored Willmar’s first run in the fifth on Austin Rambow’s fielder’s choice.

Patrick Courtney had two hits for Willmar, a single in the first and a single to open the seventh. McCleary also had two hits as Willmar was outhit 10-8.
