Girls Soccer: It’s nil-nil once again for Cards soccer team

WORTHINGTON —  For the second time in three days, the Willmar Cardinals played two periods plus overtime without scoring a goal — but remains unbeaten.

Willmar outshot Worthington on the road Saturday 10-0 but settled for a 0-0 tie. On Thursday, at Kennedy Field, the Cards and Apollo finished nil-nil.

“Our team dominated the entire 90 minutes [40-40-5-5],” commented Chelsea Brown, the Willmar head coach. “We had 10 shots on goal to their zero.  Worthington played with a sweeper behind their defense, and she scooped up every ball we would try to send through.”

In overtime, Steph Thompson headed a ball from Jennyfer Jimenez’s corner kick.

“It was a beautiful header,” stated Brown, “that missed the net by inches.”

Brown added she please by the early play of the young team.
