PRINSBURG — Taylor Reiss and No. 3-ranked Minneota flexed their muscles Thursday as the Vikings took out Central Minnesota Christian 25-10, 25-21, 25-14 in a battle of the top two teams in the Camden Conference.

Minneota remains unbeaten in the conference at 8-0 and improved to 18-1 overall. CMCS was handed its first loss in conference play and is now 13-2 overall.

Reiss hammered down 15 kills in 17 errorless attacks — a staggering kill percentage of .882 — and teammate Molly Hennen piled up 12 more kills after misfiring just once in 17 attempts.

“That’s pretty good,” said Minneota coach Stephanie Hennen of Reiss’ performance. “All three of our top hitters tonight had 17 attempts, so that’s good balance. We could meet up with (CMCS) two more times, in the inter-conference championship and during the (Section 3A) playoffs.”

Lexi Scott put away 10 kills in 19 attempts for CMCS, but no other Bluejay collected more than 4 kills.

“We couldn’t pass the ball, so we couldn’t run any kind of an offense,” said CMCS coach Terrin DeBoer. “It just wasn’t our night. Maybe we can meet up with them later in the year.”

Lillie Hankel, Mary Covert and Natalie Brouwer all had 4 kills, while Scott was credited with making 5 ace blocks and Covert collecting 7 digs.

Nicole Brouwer added 23 assists for the Bluejays, who are at the 7-team Willmar Invitational on Saturday.
