Prep football roundup: Dawson-Boyd hands Adrian 1st loss

ADRIAN — Dawson-Boyd put the brakes on Adrian’s drive for the Little Sioux Conference title Thursday after Joey Lee fired 4 touchdown passes — 3 to Michael Lee — to spark a second-half rally in a 34-20 win for the Blackjacks.

Adrian and Dawson-Boyd are No. 6 and 7, respectively, in the latest Class A poll, and both are now 6-1 on the season after Adrian suffered its first loss of the season. The Dragons entered the game tied with Class AA No. 5 Minneota/Lincoln HI for the conference lead, but the unbeaten Vikings are in sole possession of first after beating Murray County Central 48-13 Thursday.

Adrian, Dawson-Boyd and Minneota/Lincoln HI can all tie for the conference title next week if Adrian beats the Vikings on Wednesday and Dawson-Boyd beats Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday.

Adrian outgained Dawson-Boyd, but the Blackjacks’ defense held the Dragons to just one second-half score. The Dillon John TD run came after Dawson-Boyd scored twice in each the third and fourth quarters to take a comfortable 34-14 lead.

Joey Lee misfired on only 5 passes to pile up 195 yards through the air with Michael Lee hauling in 10 catches for 123 yards. The two hooked up for scores in both the third and fourth, while Dalton Palmer also scored twice in the second half, once on the ground and later in the fourth by catching Joey’s third TD pass of the night.

Jordan Dingmann scored twice on the ground for the Dragons en route to running for a game-high 132 yards.
