Prep Baseball Roundup: NLS surges past Annandale

MINNEAPOLIS — New London-Spicer scored five runs in the last three innings to outlast Annandale 8-4 on Monday in a Wright County Conference game played at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota campus.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader but the second game was suspended by rain in the bottom of the second inning, with Annandale leading 2-1. The game will be resumed at a date to be determined.

Trey Austvold, Ryan Vraa, Brett Olson and Lucas Nordmeyer all had two hits for the Wildcats, and Nordmeyer worked a complete game to get the victory.

Nordmeyer pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out five.

Two left-handers battled through tough conditions, with Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Cole Peterson prevailing while striking out 12.

Peterson and Litchfield’s Austin Larson both threw one-hitters. The Panthers scored their run in the first on Peterson’s RBI single.

Cody Klabunde singled for Litchfield’s only hit.

The teams were scheduled to play a second game, but rain forced them to reschedule at a date to be determined.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Litchfield’s Eddie Estrada stole third base and scored on an overthrow to end a Wright County Conference game Saturday at Optimist Park in Litchfield.

Jake Schultz was 2-for-4 and drove in a run and he earned the pitching victory, working seven innings and striking out seven.

Estrada reached on a double in the seventh.

NLS’ Ryan Vraa was 2-for-3 and Brett Olson was 1-for-3 and drove in a run.
