Girls Hockey: Willmar win streak halted by Brainerd

BRAINERD -- The Willmar girls hockey team saw its three-game winning streak end with a 2-1 loss to Brainerd/Little Falls in Central Lakes Conference action Friday.

The Cardinals (2-10, 7-16) trailed 1-0 in the first period, then Chelsey Wierschem tied the game with five seconds left on an assist from Carly Freese.

In the second period, neither team scored.

"We completely controlled the second period," said Willmar coach Rick Dahle, but also added the team couldn't convert that into a score. "We're really proud of the effort; it was our third game in four nights."

Brainerd/Little Falls scored midway through the third to take the lead.

Baylie Young turned away 24 shots on goal.

Brainerd/LF beat Willmar 7-0 in the first meeting on Dec. 19 in Willmar.
