MACCRAY repels Montevideo, 63-51

First Team Shaun Condon, MACCRAY

CLARA CITY -- In a game with numerous momentum swings, MACCRAY kept its unbeaten record intact with a 63-51 non-conference boys basketball win over Montevideo on Tuesday.

Shaun Condon paced the Wolverines (17-0) with 29 points.

Trailing 38-37 with 10:30 left in the game, MACCRAY shifted into high gear and went on a 14-4 run to open the game up.

"We didn't get many shots in the lane," said MACCRAY coach Gary Nelson. "We did get some fast-break layups to break it open and Condon had a heckuva game."

The Wolverines sealed the win by going 14-for-18 from the free-throw line in the second half with Condon going 9-for-10.

MACCRAY bolted to a 10-2 lead out of the chute and built the lead to 24-13 before Montevideo (12-5) went on a 14-4 run to close within 28-27 at halftime. Eric Brandon scored 14 of the Thunder Hawks' first-half points, including six off steals that led to uncontested layups. Brandon would finish with a team-high 24 points.

Montevideo was coming off a 61-59 win against Willmar on Saturday.

The lead changed hands several times in the second half before MACCRAY took charge. Dylan Aeikens added 13 points for the Wolverines, whose starting five accounted for all but six points.

Montevideo center Jeff Jerve was ejected from the game with nine minutes left after receiving his second technical foul.

"Down the stretch without Jerve they didn't have that big rebounder," said Nelson.
