Prep Softball: Montevideo scores 12 in second, routs LQPV

MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo sent 17 batters to the plate in the second inning en route to an 18-3 West Central South Conference softball win over Lac qui Parle Valley Friday.

The Thunder Hawks (2-4, 4-5) scored 12 runs in that inning. Jaci Clauson drove in five of those runs. She had a bases-clearing double and a two-run single. Then she added another two-run hit to finish with seven RBI.

Kayla Berget and Karrissa Larson each collected two hits, scored three runs and brought home three more.

Shelby Monahan threw four innings for the win, allowing three runs on five hits. She walked none and struck out one. Becca Pauling pitched a hitless inning of relief and did not allow a hit or run.

Rachel Streich went 2-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Eagles (1-3, 1-5).

The Tigers (2-1, 2-1) overcame a 5-2 deficit with seven runs in the sixth inning that included two bases-loaded walks.

Heather Gagner and Mary Rentz each had two hits to pace Morris. Dani Schultz had a double and two RBI.

Sara Beyer picked up the win in relief. She didn't allow a hit in three innings and gave up two walks.

Bethany Nelson went 3-for-4 with a double and Mary Larson had a double and two RBI for the Falcons (1-4, 1-4).
