Prep Baseball: Paynesville posts sweep over BOLD in WC South

PAYNESVILLE -- Nath-an Nietfeld threw a three-hit shutout as Paynesville blanked BOLD 2-0 in the opener of a West Central South Conference doubleheader Monday.

The Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 13-7 triumph in the second game.

Nietfeld tallied seven strikeouts. Shane Kampsen hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for Paynesville.

BOLD's Dylan Gass went six innings, surrendering two runs on five hits.

In Game Two, Aaron Savelko, Casey Hess, Shane Kampsen, Jake Deadrick, Jason Kampsen and Russell O'Fallon each had multi-hit performances for the Bulldogs.

Sam Steffel and Shawn Dollerschell cracked home runs for BOLD in the fourth and fifth innings.

Morris and Lac qui Parle Valley combined for five home runs on the day, including a grand slam hit by Dusty Sauter of the Tigers.

Sauter went 3-for-3 with the grand slam and a double.

Darrick Henrichs blasted solo homers in the third and seventh innings for Morris and Ryan Beyer hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Jordan Schwarz and Baxter DuFrane cranked out homers for the Eagles in the second and seventh innings. DuFrane's was a two-run shot.

A continuation of a game from April 20 in Melrose which was called after 12 innings due to cold.

A two-run single by Jack Hartley in the top of the 13th proved the game-winning hit after Luke Reiter shut the Dutchmen down in the bottom of the frame.

Reiter had pitched the first 4Xc innings a week earlier. Jack Schwaegerl had gone the next 4Zc before Adam Clancy blanked Melrose the 10th, 11th and 12th.
