Prep Baseball: Peterson's 3 homers lift NLS past LPGE

LONG PRAIRIE -- Luke Peterson cracked three home runs as New London-Spicer outslugged Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 15-13 in a West Central North Conference game on Thursday.

Peterson hit a solo home run in the first inning, followed with a three-run shot in the second and added another solo homer in the seventh.

Jack Hartley also added a two-run homer in the fifth as the Wildcats amassed 14 hits. Luke Reiter, Kevin Soine, Andrew Clancy and Billy Dean each had two hits for NLS.

Clancy earned the win for the Wildcats with 4Xc innings. Hartley pitched 2Zc innings of relief, allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh before escaping further damage.

Paynesville spread out nine hits among eight batters to top Montevideo.

The league-leading Bulldogs (10-2, 11-3) scored four runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Casey Hess and Shane Kampsen, five runs in the fifth with an RBI double from Nathan Nietfeld and another run in the sixth. Kampsen led the team with two hits.

Ryan Tostenson and Christian Brabender had two hits each for the Thunder Hawks (2-8, 3-10).

Aaron Savelkoul threw the first six innings for the win. He allowed six hits, struck out three and walked one.

Tronn Tosel went 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits and four RBI and Baxter DuFrane had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three to lead the Eagles (8-4, 8-6).

DuFrane hit a two-run double in the first inning and Tosel unleashed a two-run triple in the second inning.

Benson's big inning came in the second. The Braves took two walks and loaded the bases with a single, then scored its first run with a walk. Dan Martin and Kyle Peterson hit RBI singles in the inning.
