Montevideo tops YME in 3AA softball

MONTEVIDEO -- A four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and boosted Montevideo to a 6-2 win over Yellow Medicine East Wednesday in a loser's bracket game in Section 3AA softball.

After starting the rally with a single, Kayla Berget scored from first for the Thunder Hawks after Emily Johnson hit a single that was fumbled by the Sting's right fielder.

Karissa Larson and Jenna Anderson continued the inning with a double and single before all four hitters scored.

Shelby Monahan pitched a complete game, surrendering six hits and no earned runs. She also struck out four.

YME's Allie Trudel took the loss following 6Zc innings of service. She gave up 10 hits and four earned runs but also struck out seven.

Emily Johnson, Karrissa Larson and Jenna Anderson slapped two hits each for the Thunder Hawks.

Berget went 3-for-4.

Lauren Trudel and Cassie Cole tallied two hits apiece for the Sting.

The loss ends the season for the Sting.

Montevideo will continue Section 3AA competition on Saturday in Marshall against the winner of the Marshall vs. Jackson County Central game at 12:30 p.m.
