Nohl's tip at buzzer gives Morris/CA win

GLENWOOD -- Corey Nohl's tip-in just beat the final buzzer and gave Morris/Chokio-Alberta a 67-66 win over Minnewaska in a key West Central South Conference boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Minnewaska led 66-65 with 11 seconds left and was at the free-throw line. But both foul shots were missed and the Tigers grabbed the rebound and raced upcourt. A three-point attempt with three seconds left missed and, after Eric Riley kept the ball alive with a couple of tips, Nohl tipped the ball in just ahead of the horn to win the game.

"It was a great high school basketball game," said Minnewaska coach Phil Johnsrud. "Both teams played well. We were so far extended to defend that three-point shot that we didn't get back to avoid the tip."

Johnsrud said the final few seconds were like a scrum.

"There were bodies all over the floor," he said. "Everyone was crashing the boards and (Morris/CA) just tipping at the ball until it went in."

Morris/CA was missing starting post Jackson Henrich to an illness. The Tigers entered with a one-game lead over Minnewaska in the conference. They now hold a two-game advantage with three games remaining.

Lincoln Arnold had 16 points, Cory Hennen 14 and Nohl 10 for the Tigers (13-0, 18-1).

Shane Bosek led all scorers with 21 points for the Lakers (10-2, 12-5). Ben Peters added 18 points and Brady Johnsrud had 10 points and seven assists.
